  • June 30 - July 4, 2025 Philosophy of AI Summer School – Paris 2025

 

The AI and Humanity Lab, in partnership with the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London's School of Advanced Study, has confirmed the continuation of the Summer School in Paris this year.

The programme is designed for PhD students, postdocs, and early-career researchers in philosophy. It also welcomes MA students and professionals from related fields who would benefit from engaging with cutting-edge AI philosophy.

Participants have the opportunity to present and discuss their research in poster sessions, fostering collaboration with peers and instructors.

  • December 2, 2024  Welcome to our Visiting Professor, Seth Lazar

 

Seth Lazar, Professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University, is our Visiting Professor from December 1, 2024, to February 7, 2025. He will meet with our MAAIES Programme Director and the Director of AIH Lab, Professor Herman Cappelen, to discuss research and collaboration works.

Our Programme Director, Professor Herman Cappelen, author of several books about AI, explains why he believes that AI can think, plan and have emotions, why some people do not want to listen to music created by AI, and why do the philosophers like the film The Matrix.

  • September 2, 2024  Orientation

We were excited to meet our freshmen and teaching team at the Orientation. The Orientation began with a welcome speech and programme introduction by the Programme Director, Professor Herman Cappelen. Following that, each teacher presented their courses. Also, with over a hundred freshmen joining our programme, each received a t-shirt as a welcome gift.

 

We wish all our students a successful academic journey at HKU.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the first intake students of the Master of Arts in AI, Ethics, and Society programme for their successful completion of studies and graduation at the Summer Congregation today, especially four students have received distinctions for their exceptional academic performance. We are looking forward to welcoming more graduates at the Winter Congregation and celebrating their achievements with them.

AI&Humanity, along with the Institute of Philosophy, School of Advanced Study, University of London, and the London AI and Humanity project, are organizing a summer school in philosophy of AI. The school is designed for PhD students, postdocs, and early career researchers in Philosophy, but is also open to those working in cognate areas who would benefit from participating. The school will take place in Paris, France, from July 1-5, 2024, at the University of London in Paris (ULIP). For more information about applying, please see here, where you can find the form prospective applicants should fill in.
